DeleteWhat's more sickening is the cost of collecting all of these bad boys! At this time, there are 72 on the list, lets assume it will grow to 100 over the next few years and lets assume that with shipping each one will cost between 150 and 200 bucks.... Thats Gonna be about 11-15K.... Dont tell M :-)

DeleteLOL...yeah, I am curious what the pieces look and feel like. I will probably open the box this morning, and I thought about just starting to sort the pieces into ziplock baggies since I can't truly start on this one until Life is off my board, but this is something I could do even with my son in the room. And this would give me a big head start when I actually am able to get to it.

I have just purchased Life and Rizzi, and I am looking at the 9000pc Ravensburger Underwater Paradise on Amazon and drooling, I am pretty sure I am gonna end up pressing the buy button on that one pretty soon. I am currently working on Section 2 of the Life puzzle, and even though I am probably the slowest one to complete it, I'm having a ton of fun with it. DeleteI just got the Rizzi puzzle in the mail yesterday....I haven't decided if Tom is a GOOD influence on me or a BAD one puzzle wise. I have just purchased two puzzles that I never thought I would do because of him! LOL The second one, 4 Historic World Maps (18,000 pieces) is due to arrive today. Tom and M are working on this one right now which I'm sure you saw if you looked at some of his previous posts.

I haven't started Life yet, at the moment I am finishing a 3000pc educa puzzle called Manhatten Sunset that is kicking my ass, almost impossible to sort the pieces so its just a matter of painstakingly going through them hoping you see one to place. I was thinking of blogging my progress on Life and Rizzi when I finally get around to starting them, I would love to combine all the bags of the life puzzle for the ultimate challenge, but I don't think I could devote that much space in my house for as long as it would take me to complete it.
ReplyDeleteDianne, that's exactly why I didn't combine all the bags of Life - just not enough space to be able to put it together. I know lots of people who don't have that much space who still combined it (like my friend Cortney - she's following this blog too). I also figured with Life being my first attempt at a really massive puzzle, I might get too discouraged if I had to look through that many pieces in order to find what I needed. Now, after having done Section 1 and some of Section 2, I really wish I had combined them as it would be fun, but the space issue is still a factor, and I don't really want to try and put it together on separate boards that I have to keep going back and forth with. I will probably mix another large one at some point and give that a try, but certainly not Double Retrospect or 4 Historic Maps....those borders would be just ugly, ugly, UGLY if they were all mixed together!!
DeleteIf, when I finish Life, my 3 year old son is old enough to truly help on a puzzle then I might consider taking it apart and mixing all the pieces and doing it with him at some point, but I don't foresee that happening as once that puppy is done, I want it on my wall so I can brag about it! LOL
Oh, and I would highly recommend doing the blog for Life and the Rizzi puzzles. It's a lot of fun to put it out there and see who responds, and a great documented process that you can go back and have fun re-reading years later. I have gone back over some of my early posts (from summer, 2010 when I first ordered it) recently, and had fun looking at how far I've come.
DeleteThat's quite the list. I've done quite a few of those and there are many that I didn't even know about. There are also a lot that I passed on because I had already done a puzzle of that size.

Holy cow...you guys went on a puzzle buying spree! I just saw a BUNCH of "Pending"(s) on your list. That's crazy. There must have been at least 8 to 10 new puzzles that you guys have marked that way....Ebay and Craigslist finds I'm assuming? Amazing....You really are determined to get all the big guys huh? Hee hee

Does Educa really have both a 9,000 and 10,000 piece version of the Garden of Earthly Delights? I did a 1000 piece version of the center panel that was produced by a museum. It was quite difficult because the pieces were so similarly shaped.
ReplyDeleteLove the site, it is awesome. Especially the "Big Boy" section. I have found a 9000 piece puzzle from Ravensburger that is not on your list of "Big Boys" It is called "In the Jungle" and you can see it hear.
